Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's achieved huge fame with the stories that she shares about her childhood heartbreak. Swift's passion for music was evident at an early stage. From plays for children to appearing in front of crowds, Swift made rapid progress. At the age of 11, she sang The Star-Spangled Banner before a Philadelphia 76ers basketball match and in the next year, she took up guitar and began writing songs. Swift took inspiration from artists from the country genre, such as Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks and, more recently, the Chicks to come up with original songs that reflected the loneliness she experienced by the age of 13. Swift was just 13 when her parents made the choice to let go of their Pennsylvania farm to relocate to Hendersonville Tennessee. She could then devote all of her energy to approaching label labels from the country scene in Nashville.
